Heading to the beach for Xmas

This is the heron who hangs out in one of the tidal pools near my folks’ place in Florida. The beaches are relatively deserted this time of year, so hopefully I’ll be able to get a few more good shots. I love this one (taken this summer during family reunion).

So I have a great fascination for old, discarded things, particularly toys and curiosities. If you think this reflects a certain nostalgia for my presumed Southern Gothic upbringing … well, no comment.

Hubble rules out one alternative to dark energy

(PhysOrg.com) — Astronomers using NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope have ruled out an alternate theory on the nature of dark energy after recalculating the expansion rate of the universe to unprecedented accuracy.
